

Inspiration of D.REMEM came across with the idea of dissecting the name "Dhoby Ghaut" into words which meant "Laundry" and " Place or steps along a river". The idea was further developed and explore with the use of cloth to represents the "Laundry" into an architecture form which begin to creates a wavy shape representing the river.

This form begin to transform into a 3 in 1 architecture functions such as, a shelter, an open space above along with a circulation route. However, due to the surrounding buildings of high values, the concept was scaled down to prevent visual obstructions towards the buildings around. On the other hand, the Dragon Playground was introduced to be part of the design as it could help to create a iconic feature that many Singaporeans have recognize during their childhood days.

Project D.REMEM is a project that not only aims to create and enhance the site into a better connection space but also an iconic zone where users are able to make use of it as a resting area or check point before they continue their journey along Orchard Road.

Dhoby Ghaut is one of the busiest MRT stations in Singapore due to its connection of three MRT lines. It is also surrounded by many architectures of great historical and economical values.

Creating iconic check point to be part of the Orchard road and providing a sense of security for the under utilized areas so as to allow users to be able to enjoy and appreciate the ambience and also the architectures around the site.

The site is surrounded by buildings of high values and also places with high human and vehicle traffic flow coming back and fore from other parts of Orchard Road, which creates an opportunity for the deserted areas in the site to be use by the people.

With the good location of the site, many variations of opportunities are seen such as the butterfly trail that is located in Orchard road.




Vegetations and green spaces create a contrast from the hard and grey areas of the site. It provides a different ways of relaxation in Orchard Road for the users to get off the busy and hectic streets of shoppers and tourists.

Increased green areas that contain layers of uses such as human activities, aesthetics component and also the connection of biodiversity such as the butterfly garden at the most right of the green space. (Please refer to the video below for visuals of the butterfly garden)

Circulation have been open up and usable green space have been created which also compliments with the surrounding architectures.

D.REMEM are design to be like a major node or check point before they proceed with their journey to other parts of Orchard Road.

The Dragon Playground became part of the attractions where passerby could enjoy the iconic feature and at the same time reminisce the silhouette of their childhood playground.

The Dragon Playground is being shield with a perforated metal sheet with the idea of representing the childhood memories of Dragon Playground fading away as many were demolished and replaced by modern playgrounds. The playground will be lighted up forming a silhouette of the Dragon's head at night.

Shelters in the Dragon playground are designed to mimic the Dragon's body linking to the Dragon head (Main Feature). Along side with play features such as swings, seesaws and slides to create a recollection of playground features and equipments from the past. Seatings are designed with the form of wavy patterns developed from the "Cloth" concept with the use of terraced design.

Diners will be able to enjoy and look out for their children when they are playing at the playground. (WATCH VIDEO BELOW)
