

Project ALIVIA is a project that aims to improve and connects the old HDB estate with the surrounding new developments but at the same time protecting it's original values and heritage.

Tanjong Pagar is one of the busiest place in Singapore where people are most frequently seen commuting and traveling around. One of the most historical Yan kit swimming complex is also located within the site.

Connecting people together physically and socially.

Protecting and safeguarding it's heritage and culture so as to preserve the values of the site, which many places in Singapore have been overwhelmed by the fast growing of modern architectures especially the housing estates.

Senior citizens have an increasing population not only in this site but also in Singapore. Which is one of the major concerns of the design aspects that we need to look out for as they are the part of the reasons that culture values existed. However, at the same time we have to make considerations for the new residents as well.

Traveling safely in the area is a major issue that many have came across. Especially with an elderly populated area whereby traffic lights or zebra crossings located too far are an inconvenience which causes many to choose to jaywalk across the busy road.

Major roads of circulation for vehicles to travel towards the central area are located beside the estate. Higher traffic flow and increased noise level from traffic will cause nuisance to the residents as well.

Illegal parking which will cause many accidents especially with unaware drivers or elderly that are traveling.

Inconsistence design language that could be improve to better use of spaces.

Park connectors have been a long term plan in Singapore. This creates a better connections for people to explore the site that is heavily rich in heritage and culture values.









An art form that is being created from the ideas of chinese characters and symbolic elements that intersect with one another creating a picture of forms symbolizing connections and nodes.

The 2D art was further developed into a form where it rise vertically, creating various kinds of shapes and angles depicting the evolution of design elements that could be part of the architecture design.

The 2D form exploration have become part of the design outline where by each shapes represents a certain element or point for examples, circles for nodes and curve lines for circulation paths or routes.

3D form exploration have also become part of the design elements of different scale and functions.

The separated Yan Kit Swimming complex have now been designed to compliment and connect with the HDB buildings visually and physically.

Technologies have been implemented to assist in creating a sustainable living environment for the residents.

While at the same time it provide fun and space for leisure activities such as the street soccer shown above.

Making use of the open space as well as the 3D form exploration ideas. Terrain-liked playground have been designed to provide freshness for the children but at the safe time still keeping some of the traditional playing elements like slides and swings.

The playground is designed like a series of obstacles that stretch across the space mimicking the natural terrain of hills and slopes. While at the same time providing shades and screening with the use of vegetations like the bambusa vittata, a tall bamboo tree species that also have a purpose of creating an chinese-liked garden similarly to the nearby garden beside Yankit road.

Vertical greening are designed to make sure there are less obstructions for the human traffic but at the same time providing aesthetic and functional use like filtering of rain water for use in fish pond on the lower floor.

Terraced greeneries are designed so as to create a different levels of filtration for rain water to run down from the highest level of the podium and draining down to the first level where the fish pond is located. It also provide aesthetic background for the performance area screening away the huge concrete blocks of buildings and pillars.

An ornamental bonsai tree is grown in the center to provide a focal point for users to distract themselves from unpleasant wet clothes that are hanging outside the windows.

Focal point that are surrounded bamboo trees that provide visual screening and shades for users.

The historical Swimming Complex have been left untouched for a period of time and there have been many votes and comments from residents and even singaporeans living from other parts of Singapore wanting to bring back this part of Tanjong pagar back. Therefore, a newly designed lake liked swimming pool is created with various sections of different varieties and functions for different target audiences such as elderly and children.

Although the swimming pool may not be as big as the other normal public pools, it nevertheless provides a different experiences and variations of water play areas for users by compacting various elements in a small space like this. (WATCH VIDEO BELOW)

Upgraded facilities that provide safety for users which also improves the flow of human circulation.

The Courtyards are separated into two different types. With this as the fish pond where by passer by could sit on the steps. The design language of the steps is taken from the playground terrain concept whereby the idea is to mimic a natural hill and slopes. This particular courtyard is of an open concept whereby it is exposed to the surrounding.

Unlike the previous courtyard. This courtyard is grown with vast vegetations with bamboo trees as majorities to provide an intimate space for users to take a break in to read their newspapers or books for examples.
